Harewood is a fantastic outdoor classroom and offers a wealth of learning opportunities, a chance to reconnect with nature and engage with the environment, enjoy the countryside, get involved in conservation activities and build an understanding of sustainable farming and food production.
Harewood recently started a major 10-year landscape restoration and regeneration project (probably the biggest intervention since Brown’s time). The project will restore damaged and degraded historic structures, ecosystems and natural processes, create new habitats, encourage greater biodiversity and enhance natural capital functions such as water storage and carbon capture.
We can provide accessible opportunities to get involved in the project for those seeking a way of giving back to the local community and wanting to play a part in one of the most innovative landscape scale conservation projects in the north of England.
Getting involved at Harewood allows you to make a significant contribution to preserving and protecting the local environment, while also providing a wonderful opportunity for personal growth and development. Additionally, getting involved at Harewood can be a great way to boost your mental and physical wellbeing, as spending time outdoors and engaging in meaningful work has been shown to reduce stress and increase happiness.
Under the supervision of the skilled and knowledgeable Harewood team, we can provide opportunities to get involved in activities such as dry-stone walling, tree planting and maintenance, invasive species removal, wildflower meadow creation, wood pasture restoration and natural flood management.
See below for upcoming events and get in touch to discuss options and create a day of activities to suit your needs.

Thanks to funding from our Higher Tier Countryside Stewardship Scheme, we are able to offer funded, free, school visits to a range of educational establishments in the local area. Our activities include woodland walks, livestock encounters, scientific investigations, and woodland management.
These three-hour visits are led by our inhouse Outdoor Education Officer and give a chance to get up close with our livestock, help with wildlife and habitat monitoring, and spend time in our dedicated forest school. Exact activities will vary and change with the seasons, but whatever the weather we’ve had great feedback on these brilliant learning experiences.

Our standard all-inclusive day packages include guided activity, access to a private, secure, indoor space for briefings and leaving personal belongings, tea & coffee through the days, and transport on site.
Set menus featuring seasonal produce from the Estate and other local producers can be delivered by the award-winning team from Harewood Food & Drink Project. They can create a range of different food offerings, including vegan and vegetarian menus.
We can also create more bespoke packages if you want to add on a meeting or undertake teambuilding or wellbeing activities, such as outdoor yoga, bushcraft, or other traditional skills.
